DESCRIPTION: The boxy silhouette of the Deluze square armhole dress features a round bias bound neck edge and a tab opening for buttons at the centre front. The dress has a back and front scooped hem and the pockets are designed to float to add design interest. The sleeves length can be full length to the wrist or adjusted to 3/4 or a shorter for summer wearing. Depending on the weight of the fabric used this dress could also work just as well as a collarless coat for summer or winter. The garment on the cover and included in the step-by-step instructions have been made in 100% cotton fabric.

ALTERATIONS TO THE PATTERN: This garment can be shortened and worn as a top, or shorter style dress or coat. To make the top – consider eliminating the pockets depending on the final length of the garment. Purchase fabric once you have adjusted the length to your personal preference.

NOTIONS:

✁Matching or contrasting sewing thread. 8 x buttons (1-1.5cm in diameter),

✁65cm bias bind (sizes 8-16), 80cm bias bind (sizes 18-26) 1cm wide or allow extra fabric to make your own.

*Depending on the lightness and openness of the weave of your fabric, you may require light iron-on interlining for the front button tab and the corner junctions of the sleeve – purchase 1 meter, you will have plenty left over for your next project.

SEAM ALLOWANCES AND FABRIC EDGE FINISHING: Main seam allowances are 1.2cm, the armhole and neck edge feature a bias bind band and frayed edges, and the hem width is 11cm. Some seams in this garment will require you to trim off excess fabric. To finish the edges of your fabric you can use an overlocker (3 thread), zig-zag or suggested finishing stitch that is available on your machine. *For advanced sewers, binding seams is an alternative option.

FABRICS: Summer weights: Cotton poplin, Linen, Cotton/Linen blends, Cheesecloth, Chambray, Silk or stable light to mid-weight woven fabrics. Fabrics that have some crispness will work well in this style. Winter weights: Wool crepe, mid-weight Denim or worsted suiting weights.
