DESCRIPTION: The Scanlon drawstring skirt features a yoke and adjustable ties to allow you to personalise the fit of the waist for comfort. One side the skirt features an invisible (or nylon) zipper, and the opposite side seam has an in-seam pocket. Depending on the weight of the fabric selected, this skirt can be casual for everyday wear or formal for special occasion wear. The garment on the cover and included in the step-by-step instructions has been made in 100% cotton Ikat fabric.
ALTERATIONS TO THE PATTERN: This garment can be lengthened to make a longer style skirt. Purchase fabric once you have adjusted the length to your personal preference.
NOTIONS:
✁Matching or contrast sewing thread.
✁Loop turner for ties.
✁20cm invisible zipper.
✁1.30cm of 2.5-3cm wide flat braid or grosgrain ribbon for tie casing on the waist.
✁*Substitute pocket pattern – C to pocketing fabric if fabric is heavy or bulky.
SEAM ALLOWANCES AND FABRIC EDGE FINISHING: All seam allowances are 1.2cm, unless otherwise noted. To finish the edges of your fabric you can use an overlocker (3 thread), zig-zag or suggested finishing stitch that is available on your machine. *For advanced sewers, binding seams or lining the Drawstring Skirt is another option.
FABRICS: Summer weight: Cotton, Linen, Chambray, Silk or stable light to mid weight woven fabrics. This skirt is perfect to use up-cycled materials such as saris (see sample on last page), bed quilt covers, table clothes etc. Winter weight: This skirt will work well in fabrics that can be drawn-in using the ties at the waist and gather without to much bulk. Lighter mid-winter weights will work best. Substitute ties if the fabric is too bulky.
