SKILL LEVEL: Advanced Beginners (Woven or stretch)

DESCRIPTION: The Tindal panel top is a great sewing project for beginners with a little bit of sewing confidence. The TINDAL top has a round neckline with a neck facing, centre back seam and diagonal panel lines at the sides, shoulder and front armhole for extra detail. The silhouette of the Tindal is boxy, so comfortable for summer or on cooler days the top can be worn over a long or ¾ sleeve t-shirt as a layered-up look.

Consider using contrast patterned fabrics or colours in the panels (the shoulder, armhole and side panels). This pattern will work well with smaller pieces of fabric from a previous sewing project. The garment on the cover and included in the step-by-step instructions have been made in lightweight cotton poplin.

ALTERATIONS TO THE PATTERN: This garment can be lengthened to be worn as a mini or mid-length dress. The lengthen line is above the diagonal panels at the side seams. *To make the dress, purchase fabric once you have adjusted the length to your personal preference.

NOTIONS:

✁Matching sewing thread.

✁Hand sewing needle (an option for sewing the hem).

✁30cm lightweight iron-on interlining for neckline facing.

SEAM ALLOWANCES AND FABRIC EDGE FINISHING: Main seam allowances are 1.2cm, the sleeve hem is tuned up at 1.5cm and the garment hem is 4cm. To finish the edges of your fabric you can use an overlocker (3 thread), zig-zag or suggested finishing stitch that is available on your machine. Confident sewists - bound seams or French seam finishes.

FABRICS: For beginners - Light to mid-weight fabrics such as cotton poplin, linen, chambray.  Confident sewists – Silk satin, or soft flowing fabrics.
